Matthias Scherzinger, the mastermind behind the Stocker, was inspired to create a chair that caters to a flexible and dynamic lifestyle without resorting to high-tech materials. The result is a lightweight chair, 100% solid wood, manufactured using traditional techniques. The Stocker can be easily stored due to its innovative design and can be pushed completely below a table, making it an ideal choice for space-conscious individuals.
The Stocker stands out due to its unique properties. It is a fusion of a stool and a chair, made from solid wood oak with a thickness of 8mm. Its intricate structural design and construction enable it to be robust yet light, weighing only 2300 grams. The Stocker's expressive form underlines the beauty of local timber, and its compact construction allows for space-saving storage.
The Stocker is not just a product of innovative design but also of meticulous craftsmanship. Despite its minimal material thickness, the Stocker boasts excellent stability due to its complex construction. The frame items are crossed in the traditional way of jointings, and the seat is joined with molded tongues. All parts are glued together to miter, reducing the offcut to a minimum by using CNC.
The Stocker was developed in 2013/2014 in Glottertal, south of the Black Forest in Germany. It has been exhibited in various prestigious events such as the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, IMM Cologne, Ventura Lambrate Milano, D'Days Paris, Design Week Paris, and the travelling exhibition "Handmade in Germany" UMAG Hong Kong.
The Stocker's design and craftsmanship have not gone unnoticed. It was awarded the Platinum A' Furniture Design Award in 2017, recognizing its world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design that contributes to societal wellbeing. The award is a testament to the Stocker's defining aesthetics and its role in advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
